Pioneer goes 3D with new Blu-ray drive

However, this in itself doesn't really put the BDR-2207 apart from the competition, but Pioneer bundles a copy of CyberLink's PowerDVD 10 with support for Blu-ray 3D playback which might appeal to those interesting in putting together an HTPC using this drive. It also sports what Pioneer calls PowerRead which is supposed to help improve video playback from smudges and lightly scratched discs or skip ahead slightly on badly smudged or scratched discs. It also features an auto quiet mode which reduces the rotational speed of the drive when playing Blu-ray and DVD movies and QuickStart which is meant to shorten the time it takes from when you insert a disc until it's available to play by up to 42 percent.

At US$99.99 the BDR-2207 is far from the cheapest Blu-ray writer you can get these days, but most of the cheaper models come without software. Pioneer is expecting the BDR-2207 to start shipping later this month.
