Cardinals sweep GACC


WEST POINT — The Class C-1, No. 1 Boone Central girls basketballteam needed a little extra time Saturday to defeat Class D-1, No. 1Guardian Angels Central Catholic 66-63 in overtime.

The Cardinals held a four-point lead heading into the fourthquarter, but a strong frame by the Bluejays sent the game into anextra session. Boone Central got it down, however, outscoring GACC8-5.

Jenna Lehmann had 23 points to lead all scorers, while TelegramSuper Senior Jaime Kennedy had 11 points and 11 rebounds. JadeGottier was also in double figures, scoring 12 points.

Boone Central is back in action Thursday against Scotus CentralCatholic.

Boone Central boys win 6th

WEST POINT — The Boone Central boys basketball team defeatedGuardian Angels Central Catholic 54-48 Saturday, using a 32-pointsecond half to complete the come-from-behind victory.

Trailing 25-22 at halftime, the Cardinals came out strong and neverbacked down.

Beau Bremer scored 15 points to lead Boone Central, while BrettTemme added 13 points.

The Cardinals host Scotus Central Catholic Thursday.

Scouts take 2nd at CCO tournament

STROMSBURG — The David City wrestling team took second Saturday atthe 3rd Annual Bob Orsborn Tournament, scoring 156 points.

York won the tournament with 226.5 points, while High Plains wasthird at 141.5. The host Cougars came in eighth with 80points.

The Scouts had 11 wrestlers who placed. Leading the way was TonyMeusch, who won the 106-pound weight class. Wyatt Kastl (160), TrueSiffring (182), Neal Samek (220) and Brandon Barta (285) tooksecond, while Michael Varela (113) and Martin Phillips (132) tookthird. Abel Salazar (145) was fifth, Johnathon Jacobsen (126) andBrody Hoeft (195) took sixth, and David Tatum (170) finishedseventh.

Eight wrestlers placed for the Storm, with Brandon Burruss (113),Steven Thies (126) and Cale Bolton (138) winning their respectiveweight classes. Tanner Fate (152) and Tanner Hannappel (170) tooksecond, Kyle Beck (285) was third, Randy Church (120) came in fifthand Cole Church (195) was seventh.

The Cougars’ top wrestler was Aaron Oquist, who took second at 113.Third-place finishes went to Erik Oquist (138), Andy Roesener (145)and Grant Dawson (152). Josh Fleischmann (220) took fourth andDallas Talbot (132) finished seventh.

The Scouts host the David City Invite Friday, while High Plains andCross County/Osceola compete Thursday at the High Plains dualtournament.
